Embracing Integrity: Trusting My Inner Voice and Living My Truth
How choosing integrity and trusting my judgment create a path to authentic growth. Today's themes: Intention – Integrity. Affirmation – I trust my judgment and make good decisions.

Hello there, dearest Lionies,
Picture yourself standing at the precipice of a vast canyon, the wind whispering against your skin, and the space around you alive with the promise of what lies ahead. This is where our intentions are born—in the stillness between who we have been and who we are becoming. Today, we focus on the intention of Integrity—an invitation to align with our truest selves, even when the path forward is uncertain and unclear.
For so long, I felt my true self was hidden, encapsulated deep within me, unable to find its voice. While I found ways to express parts of myself—like my sexual orientation and later my gender identity—these were only fragments of a more profound truth, roles I felt "allowed" to play. It felt like integrity, but it was an integrity imposed by others, a performance that conformed to what was minimally acceptable, never more, never less. My true self was trapped inside, longing to be seen and heard, yet unable to break free.
Over the last four years, I began to "drill holes" into that encapsulation, letting that hidden self breathe a little more each day. What I discovered is that this self was layered, like Russian dolls nested within one another, each encapsulating a deeper part of who I truly am. Discovering my non-binary gender identity was just the first of several layers to peel back on this journey toward my "true," "pure," or "Higher" self. Now, my understanding of integrity has shifted from conforming to others' ideals to embracing my own truth, no matter how raw or unfamiliar it feels. And so, I invite you to explore with me today’s affirmation: "I trust my judgment and make good decisions." Let these words remind us of our power to define integrity on our own terms, to live lives that truly honor our deepest selves.
Intention: Integrity
Integrity: Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles, and is a commitment to truth, fairness, and ethical behavior. In Buddhist teachings, integrity is often connected to the practice of Sīla, or moral conduct, one of the three pillars of the Noble Eightfold Path. Sīla encompasses right speech, right action, and right livelihood, suggesting a life lived with a commitment to ethical behavior and an alignment between one’s actions, words, and inner values. It implies consistency in actions, decisions, and values, where what is done or said reflects one's true beliefs and intentions.
Inspirations on How to Achieve Integrity
Practice Self-Honesty: Start by observing your thoughts, actions, and intentions without judgment. Cultivating self-awareness allows for a deeper understanding of when you are acting out of alignment with your values. Journaling or meditating on moments where you felt conflicted or out of alignment can be a powerful tool in recognizing patterns and fostering change.
Align Actions with Values: Take time to clearly define what your core values are and what they mean to you. Regularly reflect on whether your actions are aligned with these values. Consider creating a personal code of ethics or a list of non-negotiables that guides your decisions. Each time you are faced with a difficult choice, refer back to this list as a grounding practice.
Cultivate Compassionate Communication: Practice speaking the truth with kindness. Integrity does not mean harsh honesty; it involves finding a way to communicate truth in a way that is compassionate and considerate of others. Utilize active listening and empathy in your conversations, ensuring that your words align with your values while also honoring the dignity of others.
Stay Accountable: Seek to maintain transparency in your relationships by admitting mistakes and taking responsibility for actions. This builds trust with others and reinforces your own commitment to integrity. Engage with a mentor or trusted friend who can hold you accountable to your values, offering guidance and feedback on your behavior.
Engage in Mindful Reflection: Make space for regular moments of mindfulness and reflection, such as through meditation, to check in with yourself and your integrity. Consider setting a specific time each week to reflect on your actions, words, and thoughts. This process helps to notice any discrepancies between your values and behaviors and can guide you toward realignment.
Systemic Question
In what ways am I currently living in alignment with my deepest values, and where do I feel a gap between my values and my actions?
Affirmation: I Trust My Judgment and Make Good Decisions
I trust my judgment and make good decisions. With each mindful moment, I cultivate an inner landscape ripe for growth, allowing outdated thoughts and habits to nourish new possibilities. I am not separate from my aspirations but the living manifestation of their potential.
In this present moment, I create a receptive environment for transformation. My wholeness is measured by how authentically I remain true to my intrinsic self, despite life's challenges.
I am learning to speak my soul's language, embracing the quiet undercurrents of my being. By choosing a more authentic life, I honor the paths that lead to my truest self. I trust in growth's cyclical nature, allowing elements of my life to flourish, fade, and renew without resistance.
With unwavering dedication, I move towards the future I was meant for, remaining flexible and at ease with my natural flow. I stand fully present, offering companionship to my everyday experiences while staying loyal to my unique qualities.
I am the universe experiencing itself through my distinctive perspective, deeply grateful for this opportunity to explore life through my perceptive body. In recognizing my true nature as boundless awareness, I embrace the freedom of knowing I am interconnected with all that is and ever will be.
Key Takeaway
This affirmation centers on the deep trust in one’s own judgment and decision-making abilities, recognizing the importance of authenticity, presence, and growth in alignment with one's true self, while remaining open and receptive to the continuous transformation of life.
I am both the creator and the manifestation of my deepest aspirations, embracing my true nature and trusting my unique path through life's ever-changing landscape.
Systemic Questions for Deepening the Affirmation
Reflective Question
What are the small, everyday choices where I already trust my judgment, and how can I expand this trust to larger decisions?
Hint: Think of recent moments when you made a decision without hesitation. Reflect on what made you feel confident in those moments.
Pattern Identification Question
When I feel uncertain about my decisions, what recurring thoughts or emotions arise, and how might they be linked to past experiences or external influences?
Hint: Notice if there are familiar fears or doubts that come up repeatedly. Consider what beliefs or memories these patterns might stem from.
Future-Oriented Question
How can I cultivate a stronger sense of trust in my decision-making for the future, integrating both my inner wisdom and external guidance?
Hint: Think about practical steps, like setting aside time for reflection or seeking supportive feedback from trusted people, that can help you build this trust.
Closing Reflection
For so many years, my understanding of integrity was shaped by others' expectations and by the need to survive within the confines of what was "acceptable." I expressed parts of myself that I felt I had to—roles and identities that were just enough to be tolerated by those around me. But these were fragments, mere pieces of the deeper, truer self that lay hidden within me, waiting to be fully seen and heard.
Now, I know that integrity is not about fulfilling anyone else's standards; it's about honoring my own. It's about finding the courage to dismantle the layers that have kept me from myself, to let my true self breathe freely, and to trust that I am enough just as I am. Each decision I make, each step I take, is now guided by this newfound understanding of integrity—not as something imposed, but as something deeply personal and inherently mine.
So, I ask you, dear friends: What would it look like for you to trust your own inner voice a little more today? What small steps could you take to live with a deeper sense of your own integrity, free from the expectations of others?
Let’s keep this conversation going. Share your stories, your thoughts, and let's walk this journey of self-discovery together.

I found myself nodding my head as I read this essay. What you've described matches my own journey of moving closer into and getting more and more connected to my authentic self in the past few years. This journey has shined the light of my own internal compass, the "tao" that I was born with and inherited from the intelligence of the Universe. Checking in with that internal compass has helped me make decisions that align with my intergrity, of which you wrote so eloquently in this article.
There were many times that I found myself caught in indecision due to the tough nature of meeting external expectations and holding onto my truth. Recently I found myself in an interesting situation where I had to decide if I wanted to apply for a leadership position at work which will allow me to build community based on DEI principles. I embrace this principle and have great ideas for how to build this community. However, I hesitated due to my own introvert tendencies and my mental health states which could become obstacles for my "performance." But I decided to go for it and in discussing my perceived obstacles with the current leader, got a most positive response that my introvert tendencies would not be an obstacle at all. In fact, she said that it's important to provide opportunities for quiet people to lead as a way to balance the predominant culture that rewards the loudest folks. This has led to a solution where I will be a co-chair and leading small and intimate gatherings while the chair will be the outward-facing leader speaking to a larger audience. I'm so glad that I summoned my vulnerability and presented myself in honesty based on what my inner voice was telling me. And I feel lucky to have the support of a thoughtful leader who extended the idea of inclusivity to communication and leadership style.
