Hey there, dearest Lionies,
There are days when the world feels heavy with memory and meaning, days when we are reminded of both our shared histories and our individual journeys. Today is one of those days. As many reflect on the events of September 11th, a day that altered the course of so many lives, I feel a deep sense of gratitude — for resilience, for moments of growth, and for the quiet strength that emerges even in the face of immense challenges.
I'm also feeling incredibly thankful for the spirited debate last night in the U.S.A. Even though some of the German news outlets have called it a draw, I’m delighted that many American news outlets view it as a victory for Kamala Harris. It felt like one more step in demonstrating that politics can be rooted in civility, respect, and genuine discourse, even amidst strong disagreements. If I could cast my vote, it would surely go to the first female president of the United States, Kamala Harris. This feels like a moment of change, a breath of fresh air, and a reason to hold onto hope for what is possible.
This brings us to today's intention: Gratitude. A conscious practice of recognizing the goodness and abundance present in our lives, both internally and externally. And alongside this, today's affirmation — "I Am the Knowledge I Seek" — encourages us to look inward, to trust that we are already the embodiment of the wisdom we yearn for. As we honor this day, let’s explore how these practices of gratitude and self-knowledge can guide us through moments of remembrance, growth, and healing.
Intention: Gratitude
Gratitude is the conscious acknowledgment of the goodness and abundance in one's life, both from within oneself and from external sources. In Buddhist teachings, gratitude, or katannuta in Pali, is considered an essential virtue that leads to happiness and peace. It is the recognition of the benefits one has received and the acknowledgment of others' roles in one's own well-being. In Buddhism, gratitude is connected with the concept of dana (generosity) and is often practiced as a form of reflection on the kindness of others, fostering a sense of connection and interdependence.
Inspirations to Cultivate Gratitude
Daily Reflection Practice: Begin or end each day by writing down three things for which you are grateful. These can be small or large, simple or profound. This practice helps train the mind to look for the good and recognize the abundance already present in life.
Gratitude Meditation: Incorporate a meditation that focuses on cultivating gratitude into your routine. Start by bringing to mind someone to whom you feel grateful, letting the feeling of gratitude fill your heart, and then expand this feeling to include yourself and others. This practice helps anchor gratitude within the mind and body.
Gratitude Letters or Conversations: Write a letter or have a conversation with someone to express your gratitude for their presence, actions, or support in your life. Even if you do not send the letter or have the conversation, the act of articulating gratitude can deepen the feeling and create a sense of connection.
Acts of Service and Kindness: Engage in acts of generosity or kindness toward others, whether through volunteering, helping a neighbor, or simply offering a smile to a stranger. These actions help cultivate a cycle of gratitude by recognizing the interdependence of all beings and the importance of giving and receiving.
Mindful Moments: Throughout the day, pause to notice and appreciate small moments — the warmth of the sun, the taste of your food, or the sound of a loved one's voice. This mindfulness practice helps bring attention to the present moment and the abundance that exists in the now.

Affirmation: I Am the Knowledge I Seek
I am the embodiment of the knowledge I yearn for. With each mindful breath, I cultivate the fertile ground of my inner world, allowing outdated beliefs and habits to transform into nourishment for new understanding. I recognize that I am not separate from the wisdom I seek, but rather the living manifestation of its potential.
In this present moment, I create a welcoming space for the Mystery to initiate and sustain my quest for knowledge. My completeness is not measured by external validations, but by how authentically I remain true to my intrinsic curiosity, even amidst life's challenges.
I am learning to speak the language of my soul, embracing the quiet undercurrents of my being. By choosing to live a more authentic life within the conventional world, I honor the hidden paths that lead to my truest self. I trust in the cyclical nature of growth, allowing aspects of my life to bloom, fade, and renew without resistance.
With unwavering dedication, I move towards the understanding I was meant for, remaining flexible and at ease with my natural flow. I stand fully present in this realm, offering companionship to my everyday experiences while staying loyal to my unique qualities.
I am the universe experiencing itself through my distinct perspective, deeply grateful for this opportunity to explore life through the divinity of my perceptive body. In recognizing my true nature as boundless awareness, I embrace the freedom that comes from knowing I am interconnected with all that is and ever will be.
Reflection and Perspective Shift
Today, as we hold space for reflection and remembrance, we are reminded that even in the most challenging times, there is room for gratitude and growth. Gratitude allows us to honor both the pain of loss and the beauty of connection, finding a place where both can coexist. And when we remember that we embody the wisdom we seek, we move from a place of seeking externally to trusting deeply in ourselves and our capacity for change.
We have the opportunity today to celebrate the small wins, like a debate that shows the possibility of respectful discourse, and the greater ones, like embracing our inner knowledge. Let’s remain open to the unfolding of each moment, recognizing that every experience brings us closer to our true selves.
Let’s honor this day with a spirit of gratitude and curiosity, staying present to the lessons and the love that surrounds us.
With warmth and gratitude,
Jay
